Trip the light fantastic in a very scary place (A free form poem) |
Ghetto Head I ask you to get naked emotionally and walk with me through a very scary place My head is a ghetto filled with dark alleys and dungeons Fear lurks around every corner Monsters sleep under my bed Waiting to strike out at me and take me away The emotional wounds of a lifetime are all here in the darkness Their scabs waiting to be picked and reopened never fully healed It was not always this way I think I am sure at one time it was pleasant Although I don't recall when specifically It appears to be a learned inadequate response to life That I suffer from more or less or less and more It depends on who is doing the driving I guess It is not a place to linger for long Danger lurks everywhere Keep moving and whistle in the darkness It keeps the monsters at bay, at least for a little while Do not engage them in a wrestling match Your life could be on the line Who let them in you might ask? Who knows? I reply I wish they would leave though They scare me so bad at times They want to kill me I think Then perhaps they will escape I have tried to chase them but they return Not unlike the problem Grizzly bears in Yellowstone Undaunted, non phased, incorrigible and tenacious Always finding their way back from where they were sent Attracted by the garbage that filled their space Perhaps the garbage that fills my head is the lure It appears that they no more want to be here Than I want them to stay It may be a Mexican standoff situation No truce in sight, no negotiations Keep your guns on them as they do you First one to sleep loses |
