Words Unsaid



I hold in my hand,

A few grains of sand

As I stand here upon the beach

I see that your heart is free as the wind

I see that your out of reach



But if I look at you in the distance now

With your head raised to the sun

I would be interrupting your place of peace

And the feeling you have to run



So slowly I uncurl my fingers

And watch the golden grains fall

My eyes fill with tears as those grains dissapear

As though they were never there at all.



My mind trails to another time

When life seemed happier then

I had you by my side

Like I met you at even tide

You said it would never end



I realise now what I should have before

Our love will never be

Because you belong

To the wind and the rain

You could never settle for me



And it's no big surprise

I've got to open my eyes

and see what's right in front of me



Though I'm in denial

Through tears, I try to smile

And cast my troubles to the sea



Will you always be,

Will you ever be,



Distant, distant

waves away to me?
