Originally a background story for a RPG character. Further segments in the future.
Once there was a woman named Beisela who was a camp follower to a mercenary company. This mercenary company was led by a freebooter called Kreylvir. Kreylvir's company was currently engaged by Duke Deygim Sini to assist in the suppression of a peasant revolt in the Chenyik region. Duke Deygim Sini's wife had just given birth to a son, who was to be named Mahosek. In order to celebrate the birth of his son, the Duke called a halt to his military operations and recalled most of his forces to the Keep of Fintl for several days of feasting.
One evening while the soldiers were celebrating, Beisela left the company's encampment outside of Fintl's walls for moment of solitude by the banks of a nearby stream. Eyna, her daughter, was off on whatever childhood mischief little girls of her age could find or invent and Chertzen her lover had been gone all day feasting and drinking with his comrades. Chertzen would come staggering back in the early hours, reeking of drink and singing his songs of war. Beisela reflected on her life for the past few years. These peasant rebellions were no great challenge to the company, but the loot was sparse. Still all things considered......... Beisela realised then that she was not alone. Not more than 10 feet away from her stood a tall cloaked figure and in the fading light she perceived an otherworldly beauty and the cold glimmer of elvish steel.
"By the Gods" she whispered, for before her stood an illicarmë motundil, an elven spear maiden. She stared at the elf's spear, its head looked as fragile as ice but she remembered old Wersh's stories of illicarmë motundil and how a single spear maiden could disembowel three or four armoured warriors in a heartbeat.
Slowly she reached for the dirk concealed in her boot.
"Stay your hand, you'll not die by my spear" the elf commanded. It was then that Beisela realised that in the elf cradled a blanketed bundle in her left arm.
“I have a task for you" said the elf as she passed the bundle to Beisela.
Wrapped in the bundle was a sleeping newborn.
"His father was one of your folk, a warrior of uncommon honour" declared the maiden.
Beisela unwrapped the bundle and saw it was a male child bearing the traits of both man and elf....... a half elf!
"What's his name"? Beisela asked, but realised she was alone, the illicarmë motundil{i/} had disappeared as silently as she had appeared.
Beisela then noticed that the elf had lined the blanket with grass to keep the child warm, it was a soft and sweetly scented grass which the locals of these parts called raigor grass.
"Raigor" murmured Beisela, "sweet little Raigor"
