Hurling ragged shrieks to the sky
to stab the heart of God himself
and stare with two steel suns
as he cascades down,
spluts
on the ground,
bones splintered like a pencil; stepped on and broken in two
as the stars twinkle their chuckles,
peering down at my sport.
Yet to hear those same screams
clatter
emptily back to the earth,
rattling echoes in my ears,
swells my chest 'til it splits and the air howls out between my ribs eroding them to nothing and all that is left is
the earth
and the black wind that consumed it;
a blast carrying away
wisps of powder:
The pebble and the sledgehammer.
