Stream of consciousness running swiftly over smooth rocks carrying beautifully colored leaves and a few small fish towards what....towards a lake.
I leave my house early for work on this beautiful foggy fall morning where everything is chilled and covered in moisture. The usually green grass I pass everyday in the horse pasture has given itself to its fall fashion of a layer of crystally dew that brings the green down a tone and makes the grass look sharp and fragile.
I see a group of deer, normally jumpy, cautious creatures even more so now that it is the beginning of cold weather and hunting season. They spot me and alert each other of my approaching possible danger. The buck with his modest rack watches me and then turns to make sure the others have crossed the drive and jumped into the cover of woods before he dives in as well and they disappear among the trees. Suddenly, I am sad.
I want to turn the wrong way at the end of my road.
I want to drive away from work, away from town......towards what?
Towards a lake.
