A paper I wrote at 1 am my junior year, worth a laugh I thought
I was looking through some old word documents and I found this treasure. It was written the morning it was due in my high school martial arts class. It was supposed to be an in depth analysis on why a positive attitude was important to a martial artist's development and it was the final. Needless to say I failed the class.

                                                                                                                    A Positive Attitude

As I am writing this about a positive attitude I believe I shall allow the carefree nature of my writing to run amok, in addition to my natural writing inclinations I happen to be writing this at a rather late hour so I have no doubt that it will be full of all kinds of little flubs that I will sigh over later. I will press on however and maintain that positive attitude despite any mistakes I will probably make. (I wonder what academic subject Bertrand teaches…I hope it’s not English)

Right now I’m reading a book that has an interesting plot, whose author has a fairly decent style and has the advantage of not being in some fifteen book series I’ll never be able to find the whole of. According to that description I would normally read this book from cover to cover in about twenty four hours but there is a problem. It was obviously written by someone that doesn’t have a positive mental attitude. This is apparent in the repeated times the author uses phrases containing adjectives like “pathetic” and “dismal”. Being of a rather light hearted disposition myself these phrases irk me to no small extent, thus I am returning the novel tomorrow. (I mean today in about seven hours) Such a novel as the before mentioned is a perfect example of how we can be effected by what we take in. (word says that last sentence is a fragment, kind of a shame since it’s the one that ties the book spiel in) We need to avoid negative stimuli as much as possible and practice recognizing it for what it is so that we can minimize the damaging effects it has on our mental health. (How’s that for a mood swing in writing style)

Well aside from not letting yourself get negativity puked on you by every Goth, punk, and Miscellaneous loser your meet you can build up your defenses against such an attack. (Sorry sometimes I just can’t think of a way to make something funny, ex. getting puked on) I figure all the various virtues (note the twin V’s) are tied together working to complement each other, one making the others easier. (I wonder if I’ll agree with all the philosophy I’m spouting after I get some sleep) The same is true about sin (and don’t give me any bull about there being no such thing) each drives you onto another until one day you realize that you’re just a miserable grumpy old man…or woman. For example people who are really prideful tend to be really selfish and people who are really selfish tend to be racist and people who are racist tend to be violent and people who are all these things are miserable. Okay so the idea is to live your life in such a way that you just naturally have a positive attitude. You know eat your veggies, go to school, don’t worship Satan, that kind of stuff.

Well the two methods of maintaining a positive attitude above are the best I can think of at the moment. There is of course the think real hard method that some people employ in which they try to render the effect of how they live ineffective by sheer will. This method may work for some but I’m not strong willed enough to render the laws of the universe ineffective so I’ll just go the easy way. Now aside from how to have a positive attitude there is the why. We won’t go into who, what, when, or where except to say apply to all. Why we need to have a good attitude is because life sucks without it. You get tired faster, food doesn’t taste as good, your wits are dulled and your view of things is skewed. (views are skewed no matter what but I’d rather have a positive skew)

Things are just the opposite with a positive attitude. This is not to say that life will be perfect but it will be better by far.
