Free verse poem about loneliness and loss |
The moon is a big yellow dog slowly sniffing its way across the azure blue summer sky I sit alone with my thoughts of you, a tall cold glass sweating on the wrought iron table The chair where you once sat, gazing up at the warm summer sky in silence More silent than I can bear, now that it is empty and I am alone I used to look at you in the pale yellow dog light that painted your face with softness Smiling at you and at me, how lucky I felt to be in your presence and in your life The solace I found in your quietness, your inner strength radiating in your silence The silence of being alone makes me miss it even more so The warm gentle summer breeze lightly brushes the dampness that is my skin tonight How the warmth that was you, touched the emptiness that was mine alone Your blue eyes locked on mine, I knew that it was righteous and good My eyes gaze at the yellow dog moon, wondering where you might be A shooting star passes silently overhead, its final destination unknown That was the brightness that was you in my life, as I made quiet wishes I hear the night sounds breathing, sighing, crying, waiting and wailing I am all of that tonight and more, alone under the yellow dog moon |
