this is all about friends |
A sympathetic one who has the patience to listen to our woes or gladness for a few minutes and to cry, or laugh with us without asking why, is indeed a friend It is enough friendship - the sharing of sentiment, for good and ill. But there must be a limit, for our woes boring and gladness dull One is not a friend who is too critical for our weakness. Or too ready with a counsel One is a friend who would understand our sins and take our sufferings not as evident of weakness but as part of ourselves One is indeed a friend who, in the gloom of my darkness, would push me over a cliff to end my suffering, which is his or her suffering One is indeed a friend, who, in the depth of my want, WOULD SEND ME A BALSAM. THAT THE LIFE OF PENURY WHICH IS HIS OR HER LIFE, TOO MAY EXTEND FOR THE SAKE OF LIFE. EITHER KIND IS GOOD. REAL AND SINCERE. ONE THAT DISCLAIMS THE UGLINESS OF TORTURE,AND SMASHES IT AGAINST THE ROCKS. THE OTHER TREASURES LIFE EVEN IN TORMENT AND CONTRASTS IT FOR LOVE. WHATEVER ONE'S STYLE WE TAKE HIM OR HER BECAUSE WE CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT A FRIENDS. Aristotle used to say: "O MY FRIENDS, THERE IS NO FRIEND" BUT I KNOW THERE IS. OTHERWISE THERE IS NO WORD FOR IT. I KNOW I HAVE A FRIEND. |
