Daily down to the sea went he, to gaze in sadness on it.
His love had loved the sea and she had lost her life upon it.
He heard the grief in the rushing waves that died upon the shore.
And grieved in silence with them for his love who sailed no more.
She had asked if he would join her, “not now” he said, “perhaps some day.”
And sighing she had kissed him and then slowly sailed away.
He awaited her as always, whispering her name,
But the sea had turned to madness and his lover never came.
In the morning he had found her lace floating upon the sea.
And taking it up he kissed it, saying “my love can come no more to me.”
Daily he awaited her, still whispering her name,
Waiting sadly for an answer from his love who never came.
In sorrow he decided to make this day "some day."
Then, clutching her lace, he kissed it and slowly sailed away.
Again the sea arose in anger, claiming boat and man.
And in its darkest depths – those lovers met again!
