For so long you were there
A true friend when friends were rare
But I failed to see just what I had
And as I looked back it made me sad

You once asked me for a chance
A chance at love and sweet romance
And later on did attempt
But God did hold it in contempt

On down the road I pondered a while
On thoughts of you I did beguile
And it came unto me like Noah’s dove
That it was you that I did love

But fear and doubt would hold me back
And that courage I did lack
For fear I had it was too late
That I resigned myself to wait

For far to long did I stay quiet
That these feelings within began to riot
Until no more could I stand
And thus confessed and asked your hand

That now before I sleep at night
Within my mind they come in view
Those most glorious thoughts of you
