I have had a happy life because I have them so that I may lose them. |
I have had a happy life. Because when I was born, I was born with wings. Because when I die, I die without wings. Don't I know it That blue of the sky is where I am destined to be. Don't I know it That dance of the wind is where I am fated to fly. Don't I know it That white of the clouds is where I must belong. But I didn't choose to be born with these wings Nor asked for this life of false freedom. So, do not look so startled and frightened, When you ask me to fly from the cliff of our home And I rip these given wings from my back. Dry your tears and give me blessings, if you can, When I let fall the red stained white gifts on the ground. Pray that our paths never cross again from now When I fly winglessly toward blue of the sea. Rememeber not again the existence you have taken for granted When I am swallowed in the white of the waves. Know that I wish you happiness that I can never give you When I am no more but sounds of water crashing rocks. I have had a happy life... Because when I was born, I was born with your wings. Because when I die, I die, happily so, without them. |
