wolf calls out to its own... |
Call of the Lone Wolf The moon is shining in the clear, dark sky. A howl is heard throughout the forest. Silence. Everything at a stand still. It has been so long since the howl has been heard. In fact decades have passed. Movement. Routine as normal re-commences in the thick woods. Again the howl pierces the night. Tinged with pain, agony and lonely suffering. All freeze until the echo disappears. Activity again. Yet another howl breaks the serenity of the forest. All pause--frozen in their tracks. The last came not from the same place. All wonder how this can be. Not another has been in the forest since She Who Made Him Sing left. The first hears the unexpected answer to what he thought was a hopeless summons. Astonished he returns the call. Again an answer is received. No one dares move; not one bird dares to take flight. All are curious as to this new development. Suddenly the second sends out a summons of her own and is automatically rewarded with an answer. He and She have been slowly but steadily closing the distance between them with no knowledge of doing so. Closer and closer one gets to the other, stealthily stalking and appraising. Questions race through each mind. Who is this? Where did they appear from? Have my prayers finally been answered? By chance (or maybe by fate) they glance into each others eyes and by doing so into each others soul. Each recognizes itself in the other, a part they never thought to find. He voices a howl that has never come forth from his throat. 'Tis a howl of welcome. A howl of home. A howl of love. She responds in kind. Stalking off together they make their life. The lone wolf is lone no more. |
