A soldier's last moments
There is a fire that surrounds me, though I can not tell if it is real

I see the faces of my brothers in arms, and know what they have felt that I now feel

I have killed men, women and children, and now am rotted through and through

I have seen good men fall beside me, but that is nothing new.

And as I lay here on this battlefield, thoughts whirling through my head

I realise I will lose this battle, this battle of life and death

I hear more cries of pain, and a voice that beckons me

To the light that blinds me, leads me, to a place where I’ll be free.

So I drift towards that light, knowing what I leave behind

Love, Life, Family, Friends, then my tears they start to blind

My world it starts to dim, so I let my lids drift down

I know the guns they roar above me, but I cannot hear a sound

I hear people talking, whispering in my head

And I pray my family will cope without me, without me when I am dead.
