This poem is based on a painting at the National art gallery in Ottawa
The face first seems kind
Brown eyes care free, soft and content.
A closer inspection reveals the falsity of this
A slouch and seemingly heavy brow
The weight of the world rests on his shoulders
A haunted look appears in his eyes
Haunted by the love that could not be his
That hovers ghostly behind his shoulder
Confess, this world of ideas
This world of restrictions is a heavy weight to carry
Alone

I wrote this poem for school while at the National Art Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. I'm trying to find the name of the painting I based it on so I can post it here. Thanks for reading!
