Happy child on her fanny slides,
Bumpty bump bump, over steps she glides.
Bursting with squeaks and squeals
Wiggling giggling toddler zeal.
Then up stairs brother chases,
Into teenage range she races.
Talking through consuming cares.
Chatted hours upon those stairs.
Hard granite halls with marbled stair.
The climbing ladder begins its wear
Finding lying eyes with briefcases,
Blue business suits on quickened faces.
Step by step and planning well,
Her climb is then forced to dwell.
Upon the highest one allowed.
Her glass ceiling disavowed.
Grey now, it's a tiresome chore,
To make it to the second floor.
Bumpty bump bump, great grandchild glides.
Create new memories of childhood slides.
Upon her bed, she sees those stairs,
Golden great, she smiles and stares.
Beaconing beckoning, lighter and brighter.
Her steps, now become brighter and lighter.
