'It was only a kiss...' - Mr. Brightside |
I never... Danielle sat in her car and watched from across the street as Chris helped Roxanne into a cab. The jealousy kicked in; the jolt of adrenaline made her grip the steering wheel in front of her and turn the key already in the ignition. The yellow cab took off in the opposite direction; Danielle made sure she wasn't seen by lowering her head, but was still able to see they were headed to Roxanne's place. Danielle sighed and drove herself home. She'd told herself following Rox around wasn't going to help her any, but Danielle couldn't forget the night Rox kissed her in the movie theater. Sure, they'd only been friends for a short time, but Rox had a charm that made anyone fall in love with her with just a simple conversation. They'd agreed to go see the latest chick flick together; both having secret obsessions with romantic comedies. In the movie theater, Rox led the way to the top row of seats and sat at the empty, far left corner. In the middle of the movie at the most unexpected of scenes, Danielle turned to face Rox to catch her staring. They shared an intense moment looking into each other's eyes and Rox took the lead; she put her hand on Danielle's cheek and brought their faces close until their lips met. Danielle felt her heart pause then race as Rox pulled away; Rox smiled and continued watching the rest of the movie. Their kiss was unspoken of and was treated as if it never happened; Rox had a boyfriend: Chris. Danielle obsessed over the kiss for days, weeks, expecting another everytime she'd see Rox. The moment never came up. Everytime she'd see Rox, she was attatched to Chris; Danielle noticed her opening her eyes and looking over her way while kissing him once. Her heart fell to her stomach and she left the two immediately complaining about a headache. After a while, Danielle started seeing Rox and Chris just about everywhere she'd go; from the grocery store, to the park, to just casually walking along the street. And everytime, Danielle would get a surge of jealousy that would grow; every kiss added onto her soon to be anger. Every hold made her long for Rox's touch once more, and made her envious that Chris was the one with the privialge to make love to her when he pleased and wake up with her there by his side. She couldn't take the image of the two on top of her twin size bed in her crowded room she'd let Danielle see once before the kiss... When she got home, Danielle wanted so bad to call Rox. She picked up her phone and pushed in five numbers before clearing them out. She knew Rox was with Chris and realized it was best to let them be. She layed down in her bed and looked over on the table beside her. The ticket stub from the movie sat near a picture of her and Rox. She stared into her eyes before she lost her hope again and turns off the light. |
