He Would do Anything for Her

He rode through black velvet night
to reach her loving lips.
Not caring for his life,
enticed by inviting hips.

He arose quietly not to waken her,
his newly blossomed rose.
Her petals that opened for him
were again innocently closed.

He had plans to make her his,
to seal their future plans.
So simple it was a dream,
exchange a bag with a suited man.

No questions did he ask.
He did not want to know.
He could keep his mouth shut.
Twenty thousand was enough to close.

It would cover the dowry.
He would be able to ask for her hand.
Her parents would be impressed,
all from a mechanic without land.

It was planned for midnight
at the local bus terminal.
The bag from the locker was heavy.
A bridegroom, surely no common criminal.

No sign of the suited man.
Suddenly, police were all around.
He had foolishly been waiting.
Now he was pinned to the ground.

Hands shackled and legs spread.
He found out what he had in his hand.
Powder, white as a wedding dress,
and for his rose, no forever band.
