WOW Lesson Six December 6, 2008 Dorianne Final Lesson in a Car Today was not the day that I expected I sat inside my father’s old blue car. My hand was fumbling to find the small ignition. The streets were bare and I had to venture on. The world was ready to see my skills that I had learned. My foot refused to push the slim gas pedal. My hands were like metal clamps on the steering wheel. I drove the huge machine slowly on its short journey. There was a red light. I had to stop. I looked all around With my foot still frozen on the brake. A police car stopped next to me. The light turned Green and the policeman continued his route. I arrived at my Destination and parked the car. I started the beginning of a fine day. Going back the trip seemed quite so flawless. The car obeyed my commands without a hitch.. My foot pushed just right on the gas pedal. The car floated down the street so easily. I got out and locked the car. I looked back with pride and felt the little girl had grown up and had won the day. And the car’s tank was full of gas. The girl walked nervously up to it alone. She fumbled the keys, started the car and began her trip to the store. The car crawled down the street, like an old insect on a stick. She pressed the brakes more than ever before. Her hands gripped the black steering wheel to make no mistake. She drove straight to the red light to stop and check if she remembered to lock her own door. She checked the mirror and the light turned green. The engine’s hum gave her a little inner calmness. She relaxed to show a brief smile. She remembered what her confident dad had said. The past lessons he gave were good and He had trusted her driving all along. She parked the old car and strode into the store. She looked back at the machine that Would frighten her no more. The trip back was filled with confidence and joy. The little girl was now a lady with flair.
