Poem for my end of the world novel.
Last Song of the Birds

Prologue

First blades, then bombs,
Virus and disease,
Man killed man then man killed men,
Now man kills whatever he sees.

1

The birds sing their last song this day, the end of man is nigh,
God wakes up, looks round and thunders “this time man will die!”

2

The birds are singing the song today,
Man begins to falter,
Where to go he does not know,
But we are banished from God’s altar.

3

No son of God will fall from heaven,
To save us from ourselves,
The hands of sly and clever men,
Hath forged us our own hell.

4

Those who heard the end of the song, those are in for hell -
For man has never beaten man so man has always fell.

5

The last song of the birds is here,
They sing their damning tune,
Savour it with a final tear,
For now the world is through.
