the aftermath of unfaithfulness...of being unfaithful |
The first is the breaking of God's law. The second is the shattering of your image, The hope of what you might have been Streams down in the form of tears on your face. Oh, but it's much too late for crying. Your sobbing and wailing can never release all you feel. Your poor heart has broken. Your chest aches, and your throat burns. You may ask yourself what you were thinking. The answer is something you will never know. In time you may chalk it up as some great mistake, You may find that it shapes your character. You will probably never regain all that you lost- All the trust and respect. You will never be who you were going to be. That person-that image-has died. You may ask for forgiveness, You'll beg for a second chance But you have no idea who you even are. Whatever it was that made you special, Whatever it was that set you apart has vanished. Nothing you can do will fill the void. And you can only look to yourself As the cause of this great pain. You'll remember that she once held you closely And called you her hero. Oh, how you've become as a sinking ship. You have no hope to keep from drowning In sorrow and self pity. The past will become a burden That's much too hurtful to bear. You'll walk on eggshells the rest of your days. Timid and afraid you wake Timid and afraid you sleep. This lamenting is now life. You will never understand. You will never forget Such a great tearing sound. |
