"Sins"

Phase 3

Keep delving? I use to wonder. It was my creation. My design. The system knew the outcome. We never stood a chance. This was my decision. Void was my goal. This city will feel my wraith. I will anger the gods.

Prosperity was uncommon within Barrilus's home, yet his mother and father traversed great, and dangerous, distances just to provide for the boy. Of course, they were not the only ones struggling. Many families were mimicking the trend, but Barrilus's were a special case. While most were performing their daily (typical) task, his were overseeing a groundbreaking phenomenon. "Control over the sky," that's what Barrilus termed it. After all, the idea came not from the mother or the father, but none other then young Barrilus himself. Ultimately, the project was completed, and properly titled by its main contributor. No more would Barrilus, and his family, know the hardships of poverty. Even so, the young boy's talent would prove crucial to those left behind. For Barrilus could never abandon the people of Depth. His people.

years later

"This will be your final deed for our cause Barrilus."

The boy was a man now, and with maturity came great responsibility. Barrilus knew. He knew what his employer truly seeked, but his own curiosity suppressed any thoughts of betrayal. When compared to this, the weather's nothing more then a mere child, Barrilus thought. Brainpower had driven the man so far, yet his successes never seemed to register within in his own mind. The "boy's" parents feared for him. They both realized the man he had become. Rationality, replaced by pure greed. Any form of caring completely erased. Their son was no longer "little Barrilus," instead he was a lost cause.

"Why must my son be such a fool? You never could let go Barrilus."

"Your mother's right. What have you become my son? Where did we go wrong?"

Flashback

"I guess you were right. That boy will truly make us rich."

"The irony. Maybe I misunderstood."

"What?"

"Oh, Barrilus, what is happening to you?"

"Nothing! Even now you two don't understand. I came to w-- I came to say goodbye. You both are absolutely right about me. I can fix anything but for some reason I couldn't make you proud. Rich, but not proud haha. I'm done trying... so this is my goodbye.

The storm approaches.

End of Phase 3
