Written as a tribute to all who were lost on 9/11/2001 and also to all who survived.
This week in the UK there have been many television documentaries shown about 9/11. Eight years on and it was heartbreaking to watch and remember. Especially poignant were the telephone messages that the relatives shared which were made by their friends and relatives trapped in the towers. This is my tribute to all those lost and also to those who have survived and grown stronger.

Twin towers are no longer standing tall
And yet their memory did not fall
For gathered from all events that passed
There has grown and spread a strength to last.

The loved ones remembered by those bereft
Give voice and the messages they left
When they were waiting, fighting to live,
Can still be heard, still to us strength give.

The simple acts that occurred on that day,
The friendly faces that chose to stay,
The calming of fears amidst the smoke
The strength that terrorists never broke.

Today the whole world does remember
Two thousand and one, the eleventh of September,
The twin towers destroyed may have gone
But their strength and spirit still live on.

That dreadful day when terror the world changed
And the way we live was rearranged,
Gave rise to hope as nations united
Stood to fight the evil ignited.

The towers assaulted buckled and fell,
The planes and fires a nightmarish Hell,
Yet born from disaster, we rose again
And the strength of the towers will always remain.
