First chapter of a book about a man that wakes up, finally.
As far as I know, my name is Jack Shadow.
I am also known as Shade, the Darkened Saint, the Demon of the North, the Eastern Talon, the Ghost of the South, the Flame in the West and the Infernally Condemned Soul. ( All I can say is that I’ve seen many places, and people don’t like me very much. Probably because I’m a professional thief. The best, in fact. But you’ll learn all about that later. ) Anyway, I’m also commonly referred to as the Ace of Knaves. Hence the title of this little piece.
Now, all of these names have an equal chance of of truly belonging to me, but I have no idea if any of them do, because I have amnesia. No memory of anything beyond four years ago. Four years ago today, as a matter of fact. That’s part of the reasoning behind writing these memoirs. So that if my amnesia…umm…happens? What exactly does amnesia do? Does it happen? Return? Strike again? But I digress.
If amnesia ravages my mind once more, I’ll have this collection if recollections to restore my memory. I like that. Collection of Recollections. Catchy…My apologies. I digress again. I have no experience in the field of memoir-writing. I think they’re supposed to be serious. What I was saying is that I’m going to record all the events of the past four years of my life, in case of amnesia. And because I’m a terrible braggart. But not without reason. I’m the best, remember? Ah. I digress yet again. Sorry. The last four years. I’m gonna tell you about them. Now.
