an adopted son must choose to be part of the family.... |
You Have Not Chosen Us Beloved son, we hold you in our hearts for all eternity, but you have not yet chosen us to be your family. You keep your distance and view us as your pawns. You're an expert at telling lies and weaving cons. We cherish you, though we sometimes fear for our lives on those occasions when you threaten us with knives. That never diminishes our love for you one bit, though it hurts us more each time you choose to hit. Attachment Disorder makes your thoughts and actions strange, but we refuse to give up faith that you will change. We pray your rage is only for a season— that you will realize your anger has a reason. The therapy and medications are true blessings; we can now see your future as less depressing. Though we don't yet know what the outcome will be, my dearest son, please choose us as your family. Pat Nelson September 18, 2009 My son has bipolar disorder and attachment disorder. These are both very serious disorders, and we battle them every day. We hope we will find the right answers and that he will have a good life—a successful life! For more information about Attachment Disorder please visit: http//www.attach.org Update October, 2012 With the help of an excellent therapist who specializes in Attachment Disorder and effective medications to stabilize his moods, my son has made amazing progress. He now kisses me on the cheek before he goes to bed at night. He can't go to bed if he thinks I'm mad at him about something. I always make sure he knows I love him even when he has to be disciplined. He is a real joy! I'm so happy to be able to report his progres. Don't give up on children with problems! They are worth it. |
