A small excerpt from a life-without-people novel I have been toying with for a long time.
Never Alone

I let the cool covers caress my body, licking and soothing my bare skin. She held me in a light, silky embrace. I breathed heavily on her folding curves that lay in my hands. Warm air bounced off her silk and she kissed me seductively on the cheek. That soft, sweet river flowed around my body, constricting me and enfolding me in its waves. Ecstasy swelled inside me in as I dragged my fingers down the length of her thin body, cherishing the smooth texture of the stranger underneath. Her beautiful, shimmering skin touches my lips and my breath shortens. I twist, writhe, and manage a gasp as I bask in the elation of our intimacy. I turn my head -- my arms shake and my grip on the sheet grows weak.

A face is pressed to the darkened window not six inches from my head. Two round, black eyes are housed in a narrow head that curves to a beak at the bottom. The man-avian hybrid twitches a little and knocks its head against the glass. Dimitri is watching. He’s watching, but I won’t give him a show tonight. I pull the comforter up to my neck and fluff my pillow. He bears a set of needle teeth and rattles the glass in response. I yell for him to leave and I roll over. After a few minutes of goading the avian face leaves the window and as I drift off I think of another lover I left unsatisfied.
