A story about the beauty of music that I wrote for English class. |
Life without Music Life without music is a tragedy we wish to never endure. What would it be like? Our souls would be a dry, barren place. Once full of life, now hollow and cold. Imagine a bird without song. What a travesty that would be. They say music is the gateway to the soul. Without it, we’d be nothing. No way to express what we feel inside. Our emotions held back. A voice we now lack. Singing releases things held deep inside. Each lyric touching us from the top of our heads to the tips of our toes. What would it be like? A numbness now building, allowing no feeling. No goose bumps or chills. No joy. No pain. Music brings all of these things. Some say that pain is not a good thing to feel. We say that we would rather feel pain than nothing at all. Some say that music is just for fun. But is that all it has to offer. Mere entertainment when we are bored. A noise to fill the awkward silences that life often bring. Or is it something more than that? Singing is our passion. Singing is second nature. Is it a crime? Is it a crime to express ourselves? There are many ways to express ourselves. Some people are extroverted. Talking is their thing. We are different. An introvert at heart, we are quiet and shy. To us talking should be used only when needed. It seems that sometimes it is just useless chatter. Does anyone have a right to tell us how to feel? Is it a sin to be different? Differences are what make us who we are. If we were all the same, the world would be a bleak, boring place. Music is an emotional rollercoaster. A four minute journey. A song can leave us with a smile. A song can leave us with tears. A song can leave us feeling satisfied. A song can leave us wanting more. A song can leave us with anything that our heart desires. A song will never leave us feeling empty. |
