The knight making his way
through the ups and downs
of the rocky terrain’s sway,
sped past the harsh browns.
The race that began at daybreak,
went on till the October sun slanted
through the tall trees, bush and lake.
The rider and horse flew as they panted.
The goal kept him steadily on.
The nation’s honor, on his shoulders,
as countrymen cheered from the lawn,
the rivals took off through boulders.
His vision was clear, his aim unwavering,
even when he was riding in the shadows.
The storm hit him hard, yet, maneuvering,
through the intricate ways to the meadows,
he reached the destination in the twilight
of that fine day of adventure, rivalry, rectitude.
He, and the horse were exhilarated by the flight
while others wondered at their winning aptitude.
