This might make you think a little...
A Friend

As the sky slowly darkens
Tears roll down her face
The rain beats on the window
At a slow and steady pace

Nobody ever talks to her
And she wonders why
She knows she's a little different
She's knows she's a little shy

But why can't one person
Step away from the crowd?
Why can't someone talk to her
Talk to her clear and loud?

She knows it's a lot to ask
But just one friend would do
Something even better
Would be more friends, maybe two?

And so she cries
All night long
As the rain pours down
In a melodic song

The next morning she wakes
She wakes with a start
She feels something different
Something different in her heart

And so she goes to school
Feeling extra fun
She talks and talks and talks
And she has friends-A ton

She realizes suddenly
They may not step out for her
But she can step in
And she'll have friends for sure

The next day at school
There's a new boy in class
One who is shy
And sure to be sassed

As the days go on
The poor boy gets teased
And she remembers being that person
She remembers being so displeased

So why let it happen
To the new kid in school
So what if some don't like him
In her eyes he is cool

When they tease him she shouts
"Hey you!"
"Back away from the kid,
Unless you want to be teased too"

This takes the bullies by surprise
They weren't expecting this
But after their shocked faces
Came a face of sudden distress

All realized just then
That it's okay to be unlike the rest
The different kind of people
Always turn out to be the best

Because she took a chance
At standing up for him
They now are best friends
Because she went out on a limb

So next time you think
Of treating someone that way
Think of this girl
And wait another day
