The Shiver of a Kiss
What is love?
I realize this to be the broadest of questions,
But it seems to only be held on the wings of a dove.
Few people have the luck to experience such a gift,
But when it comes to you in a clever disguise, embrace it.
It is highly probable that this “love” is simply makeshift,
But who are we to judge?
You came to me once in a dream,
And yet I was too naive to see what lay in front of me.
Life went on and so did you,
On to another uplifting door,
Giving up on my hopeless ignorance for life itself.
Once the purity of love has slipped from your grasp
The grim reaper’s cold scythe caresses your throat once more.
And as he whispers in your ear, you hear his rasp,
“What a fool you have been.
Life has granted you such a precious gift
And your heart fails you in this great time of need!
For an eternity your soul will sit in despair,
Never to be released or freed.
Let this be a lesson for others who seek what shall not exist,
Do not go out in a search.
Your long and unforgiving journey will end in hurt.
This I insist.”
