Monster

Long after the sexual abuser is gone, he lives on in your head.

Note: Sexual abuse victims often relive the moments of trauma long after the abuse has stopped. They are often silent, never speaking of the abuse for fear of judgment.

It is the monster in my head,
not the one under my bed,
that frightens me the most.
Screams piercing the night,
demented scenes
flash before
closing
eyes.
Lies
spill forth
uncontrolled,
tricking my tongue
I state all is fine.
Hiding most vile secrets,
the monster has naught to say
in blinding light of the new day.

Form Used: Mirrored Octet

The Octet is a form, recently discovered by Dr. Laura Andersson.

The Octet works in the same way as the Countdown and the Nonet, only with the difference that it counts backwards from 8 syllables to 1 syllable.

More stanza's in this form are allowed, it is also possible to reverse the Octet, starting with 1 syllable, going up to 8 - a mirrored Octet.
