The road-kill crow keeps his eye on the road
As he picks over lunch with his friend,
A taste of misfortune stuck in his throat
While he struts in the dry desert wind
He defiantly gestures to each passerby
Giving ground to an errant freight liner
Then settles back down with a smile and a grin
To fast food at the concrete road diner
One has to be quick he sneers to his chum
For the road rewards only the clever
Disaster assaults any weakness it finds
And remorse then will linger forever
He casts a quick glance to the opposite lane
Where a minivan speeds ever nearer
He deftly evades an oncoming bus
But is smacked by a panel truck’s mirror
He lands in a heap of feathers and bone
A disaster of substantial dismay
Yet please note, his appointment he’ll keep
For lunch on the super highway
