Sinking down...
down...
down...
to a place I cannot reach.
I want to grab her and pull her up
up from old age
up from sickness
I want to pull her up to the past
to the time of youth
to the time of chasing squirrels
and treats
and playtime.
How I will miss her terribly
the friendly face after a long day
the kisses when I come home from school breaks
the happy look in her eye when I scratch her belly
But she was sinking farther
she was gone and I shed my tears
But she did not hit the bottom.
She rose to a place she could watch over me,
and she is waiting to pull me up when my time is ready
and we will go back to the time of youth
and we will never sink again
