Magical Mayhem (1st Place)

“Let’s get him inside the workshop,” Vallen the elf said, “He looks half frozen.”

Vallen and Hermies dragged the poor chap inside, where they wrapped him in blankets and placed him in Vallen’s bed.

“He’s awful funny looking. I don’t remember seeing him here,” Hermies uttered as he examined the man dressed in emerald green with a large buckled hat. “He has to be an elf. Look at those ears, and you can smell the magic on him. Go get Santa.”

Vallen, swift as a reindeer, set off for Santa.

“Sir. Hermies and I were coming back from a tree search mission and found an unconscious elf!”

“Oh, Dear!” Santa exclaimed. “I certainly hope he’s ok.”

Santa and Hermies arrived just in time to see the young lad awake.

“Wha' in clover is this place? Me head is spinin’ like the spirits have got me.”

“He talks funny,” Hermies observed.

“Ho. Ho. Ho.” Santa laughed. “This is no elf. This is a leprechaun! What brings you to the North Pole?”

“North Pole! Why that meddlin’ Nurmen, me neighbor, had sometin’ ta do wit’ it. Ya cun be surrrre a dat!”

“What’s a leprechaun, Santa?” Vallen asked.

“Why they are little people, such as yourselves.” Santa raised the back of his hand to his mouth and whispered. “A bit more hot tempered, but they are cousins.”

“That Nurmen is goin’ ta be tryin’ ta steal me gold now. What wit’ his magic enchantment ta send me ‘ere.”

“I can fix that for you.”

“Ya Kan?”

“Sure. It’s called the naughty list. He’ll get nothing from St. Nick this Christmas. Plus with a bit of Christmas magic, he’ll never find your pot of gold.”

“That’ll be teachin’ ‘im a lesson. Perhaps I’ll stay and be making ya a nice set o’ shoes.”
