I was out to play one summer day,
When a Raven suddenly came my way.
She held a message on her breast,
Which that to you I must confess.
A lesson I wont be quick to forget,
For then thou would live with such regret.
Don’t eat the poison apple, she says, seeds of lies.
The walls start speaking, garrulous cries.
Expand your wings into flight,
Into day, then into night.
Like a chameleon wild and free,
I seem to have many colors to me.
And if this rainbow ever faded grey,
My wings would then be taken away.
For a sun only kisses those who glimmer,
Not the winning spin of some random spinner.
If a twig falls out of your nest,
Fix it up your very best.
If a feather falls as you glide,
Rely on those flying by your side.
And if a worm you fail to bring,
Try again in the next day of spring.
And as I'm taking this all in,
The ravens resting, hand on chin.
Tilts her head, looks me straight in the eye,
Then rises back into the sky.
