The prologue to The Sub-Stream, a sci-fi adventure which re-writes the laws of space
PROLOGUE

By the year 3764, space travel had not only been achieved but had become so common that the majority of people were bored with it. There were two very good reasons why such a large number of people believed that travelling the vast depths of space was so highly unattractive; one being that once you’re in space, there really isn’t a lot to see and even if you do happen to find a distant planet, you must learn the language of the locals, learn their norms, find a way to blend with them and of course search for the nearest pub before you can even begin to enjoy yourself.

However when you visit a distant pub and you know little of the dialect meaning you therefore have no ability to read a menu, you would usually be forced to order the local brew. This in itself is a major problem, but more one that led people to stop drinking rather than travel. Take for instance the most common alcoholic beverage on the planet Jafron. It is the drink 'Lemon stranger'. A harmless concoction when drank by Jafrods however, to most tourists it is a drink so potent that ninety percent of those who are within a twenty meter vicinity of it die of internal haemorrhaging. So as you can see things can become problematic when not given sufficient prior thought.

The other issue with space travel is time. The universe is very big after all and travelling the vast distances is no small task. On the plus side, a solution was created for this problem. The idea was to increase the speed of space travel, but by the year 3764 no one had managed to reach anything higher than SOL8 (speed of light to the power of 8). This may seem fast, but considering the great lengths of the universe, it really isn’t. However, through out the previous 50 years scientists had discovered and been using Dark-X particles which exist in only the most baron regions of the universe. These particles react with light and increase the speed at which it travels, therefore increasing the speed of SOL8 when it passes through the Dark-X voids. Unfortunately, Dark-X particles had created much controversy since their discovery, due to the fact that they defy every law of physics that we believed controlled our universe. And the thought that they increased the speed of something that is merely based on the speed at which light travels seems wildly inaccurate.

Unfortunately, for these scientists their opinion has no effect on reality, for they have no control over what is possible and impossible. The truth of the matter is that something does not need to be possible to be reality, but in the year 3764, on Wednesday the 4th of April, only two people in the entire great lengths of the universe knew this fact. They knew this because they knew about the three laws of reality, possibility, probability and plausibility. They also knew about the structure of the universe, they knew of the two layers and the sub-stream that bound them together. Both of these people were men, human men, born and raised on the human O-planet (planet of origin) Earth. This is the story of how they used their knowledge to travel the universe, and the trouble they ran into along the way, all due to a small red device.
