How I spent this summer—working in the hills! |
SUMMER HOLIDAYS I love summer holidays But never get a chance. I am so engrossed in work, A never ending dance! This year I got holidays As if just in a quirk, When I volunteered myself For doing social work. I live in New Delhi with Forty five Celsius. Twenty degrees was something To be quite envious. I saw on the internet A rare advertisement For a person having a Teaching temperament. They needed someone to give A month long training in Spoken English to a few Villagers in Sikkim. Sikkim, a lovely hill state Is five thousand feet high. I applied and they called me To give the course a try. My month long sojourn in hills Had divine scenery. Hill slopes were abundant with Fountains and greenery. I cannot ever forget The simple life of hills, Beset in pristine nature Away from urban frills. • Written in abcb, 7-6-7-6 format. • Written for the “Poetic Licence Contest-New Prompt!”, "Invalid Item" , hosted by riatsala, where the prompt was “Summer holidays". • The details of the holiday are given in my travelogue—–"A MONTH IN A HILLY SIKKIM VILLAGE " . --144 words M C Gupta 7 July 2010 |
