Part 4: This is a novel in progress about the lives of staff members of a hospital. |
The hardness of Dr. Miller’s chest and pelvic area pressed against Carla’s body caused her to tingle all over. She held on to his cotton shirt praying the kiss would never end. She had never felt like this before. Dr. Miller felt the tightness of his slacks. He pushed Carla backwards into the door of the conference room. He drew her closer to him seeking relief from the desire he felt for her. Trying to gain some control over himself he pulled his lips away from hers. As badly as he wanted her, he knew he would have to take his time with her. The innocence in Carla was unique. Whatever developed between them had to be special. Carla lips remained open searching for his lips. She opened he eyes and saw Dr. Miller looking down at her with lust and hunger in his eyes. Her body was on fire with the same desire she saw in his dark eyes. “Why did you stop?” she said breathlessly. “Because I want more than a kiss,” he replied in a husky voice. His words gripped her with fear. Her dreams had been filled with Dr. Miller kissing and making love to her. Now that it was a possibility she wasn’t sure she was up to the task. She didn’t want to wake up the next morning and find out that she had been a passing fancy for the good doctor. “What about Natisha?” Carla asked. Feeling his eyes burning into her, she looked away. “What about Tish?” “She has made it clear to everyone that you two are an item.” Just two days prior, a new nurse came into the ladies locker room and comment on how handsome Dr. Miller was. Tish quickly told the other nurse that he was off limits and informed her that she would make her life a living hell if she went after him. “There is nothing going on between me and Tish. I don’t know why she would say…..” Dr. Miller was caught off guard when Carla’s body pushed against his. He grabbed her in his arms to keep her from falling. Carla couldn’t believe how safe she felt in his arms. She wanted to stay in his arms forever. There time alone was over. An elderly couple entered the conference room with solemn looks on their faces. They walked to the chairs against the farthest wall and sat down. Dr. Miller and Carla exchanged pleasantries with the couple and quickly exited the room. When the door was closed behind them, Dr. Miller reached for Carla arm and pulled her close to him. “I don’t know what Tish has been telling you, but she and I are not together and haven’t been for a very long time. She and I dated over two years ago. It didn’t work out and we parted ways as friends,” Dr. Miller told her. “It doesn’t matter anyway. I already told you that I don’t want to get involved with anyone at the hospital. Plus, if Tish even thought I was interested in you she would make my life a miserable.” “Nobody one has to know that we are seeing each other,” Dr. Miller countered. He caressed the side of her face casing a warm sensation to travel down Carla’s spine. Carla’s sensible side told her to tell Dr. Miller no and walk away as fast as she could, but her body cried foul begged her to find out if all the rumors about Dr. Miller prowess were true. “Just go out to dinner with me and if you still don’t want to see me after that, I’ll leave you alone. Just one dinner,” he offered. Carla turned her head away. She was afraid he would see the desire in her eyes. A dinner wouldn’t be that bad. After all it was a public place. Nothing could happen, right? “Ok, we can go to dinner.” “How about Thursday? I’m not on call that night,” Dr. Miller said. “Thursday will be fine.” Out of the corner of her eye she saw a white lab coat entering the surgical holding room. She wasn’t able to make out the face, but her heart sank to the floor. If one of Tish’s little clique had seen her with Dr. Miller she was in big trouble. ***************************************************** Jean couldn’t believe her eyes. Carla wasn’t the little innocent thing she had been portraying herself to be. She had her sights set on Dr. Miller all the time. Jean quickly walked to the phone at the nurse station and called Tish. Her cell phone range several times before it went to voice mail. She waited for the beep to leave a message. “Tish, this is Jean. Call me as soon as you get this message. You’re not going to believe who I just saw all up in Dr. Miller’s face.” |
