Dinosaur’s teeth
Stone markers

Dividing the line
Between here and there
‘Twixt
Yours and mine…

Lassoed lake, pulled into knots
Noosed into nonexistence
Damning the good earth

Making room for
The sons of Adam,
The two-legged beasts
Who rise from the distance
Like well-leavened yeast

Wildlife and wildfire
Return again and again
To reclaim their space
And firmly but roughly
Are put back in their place

Markers of stone
Markers of wood
Soldiers defending
Against time
They stood

And Time will not recognize these lines

Of rude runes
And dinosaur’s teeth
