A Dream



Living in a house with you
Parents crazy, drunk and raging
Some guy is sharing drugs with them too
We watch a movie, pretend not to hear
The screams of your little sister, being beaten
The crash of empty beer bottles on the street
It is impossible to ignore
You start crying
I've never seen you cry before...
Change of scene
Some sort of fight
A competition
Dancing, happily
Crazily
Dizzy, I fall down
Somebody picks me up and I continue
But fall again
Somebody else yanks me up and pushes me down again
I'm being shoved around
Stop, please, it hurts
Everything hurts
'You killed me'
Oh, I'm so sorry
I know I've been bad
I shouldn't have fallen
But you keep pushing me down
Suddenly someone interferes
Pulls me up and scares the bully away
You? I can't believe it
Why are you saving me?
We're enemies, aren't we?
Well, in my dream we're supposed to be
We fight a little, but not violently
What the hell? How did I end up in your arms??
We were just fighting, weren't we?
Hey, you're really comfortable
Your arms wrapped tightly around me
I feel safe
I close my eyes and breathe you in
Mmmm this is nice
But someone calls my name and my eyes fly open
I jolt
What's happening?
I'm confused
I want to go back to you
We're enemies, aren't we?

No, leave me alone!

Someone pulls me away from you
Why are you hurting me??
Stop it!
I'm dragged back, reaching out for you
And I whirl around to face the offender

What are you doing?
No. I don't want this.
Hey! Get off of me!
I scream, you laugh
He hears but is somehow glued to the spot
Change of scene
Back to the house

You take me to your room
Shut the door tight, just before something is thrown at it
What's happening?
I'm confused
I notice you've stopped crying
But you're staring into space
I take your hand and plead with you to tell me what's happening
You say I wouldn't understand
I want to help you
Tears are streaming freely between me and you
You turn music up loud
I hear swearing outside your door
Screaming
You try to comfort me
But I'm confused
What's happening?
You take me in your arms
You try to block things out
It doesn't work
What's happening?
You rock me and I close my eyes
What's happening?
Screaming, crashes, laughing outside
You turn the music up louder
Someone crashes through the door
You try to protect me
No! Help me!
They drag me away from you
You are somehow unconscious
No, please, don't hurt me!
I whimper and closemy eyes

I wake.
