Notes from a Dypso

A bit of prose

It starts with a single drink….one drink, how lovely and delicious it is.  When you raise it to your mouth, the ice makes that sweet clinking sound, and just as you sip the intoxicating aroma engulfs your senses and the cool liquor touches your lips and gently unfolds itself to you, revealing its body and all…..all the passion of its brewing reveals itself to you right there in that first sip.  After that the second drink is easier yet, nothing at all.  You drink it straight, you choose it, you might chase it, because every swallow gives you more courage, brings you closer to the truth, more ego and now you find you can’t stop.  It’s noon from 2 days ago that you remember that first drink and there are a hell of a lot of blanks to fill.  Your mouth tastes of stale tobacco smoke and the faint whisper of vomit.  Your head is full of disillusionment and strange flashbacks, of dizziness as such as you raise the pulsating weight off of the rough carpet that must have been a comfortable alternative to a bed.  You realize your face is kind of epoxied to this carpet and there is a serious amount of drool running from your mouth onto said carpet.  You manage to peel yourself from the carpet, which you are not sure is mounted on the ceiling or the floor….The room does a triple hazing spin in your eyes, back and forth and your eyes jog to catch up with it.

Your biceps and shoulders scream as they try to lift your vibrating torso off the floor and extreme vertigo sets in like Ali had just hit you with one of his hard uppercuts and darkness begins to close in around you once again…..

When you regain conciousness again, there is no change in the horrible way you feel….There IS positive light coming from somewhere and you hope its from somebody who can help you, but you realize its much too bright for your liking and you squint and turn angry upon whoever has turned them on.  You really don’t want to open your eyes until this horrible feeling has passed.  Its unpredictable what will happen now.  You know you need nicotine to sharpen you senses temporarily so you can define your surroundings thru the arrow slits that are your eyes and you hope that no one important is standing over you shaking their head in disapproval.  You wish there was a pair of sunglasses shading your rosy reds from the light and the world.  There isn’t.  But even now, in your ever-growing awareness, there is that bar full of liquids that do not judge and a quiet umbrella that will shade you from the world for another few hours…………..
