The start of the start of something |
PROLOGUE “An original thought could be worth a thousand vaginas,” Arthur Parker said to me one hot summer day while we were waiting for trucks in the shade of a large maple tree on the lawn of an anonymous family home outside of a town that remains now in the past indefinitely. I had been talking to him for some time about writing his life story because to me he was an original, an icon to many, he had been thru some of the craziest and most important devices that life has to offer. His lascivious lifestyle opened up a whole new world and a whole new way of thinking to a lot of people including myself. I grew to love him as a father during the five years I worked with him, a second father as I wrote to him one drunken winters eve on a Christmas card that later he told me he would never get rid of so he could use it against me whenever I went awry and expressed the opposite opinion about him or his ideals. In hindsight, I should have never given him that card……… They say that time travel is impossible, but thru correspondence and personal memory, it is possible…..it IS possible….This is where Arthur taught me that there is no end, no beginning and that the future is always unwritten, until we make it happen. I read books unknown to them all, but all that didn’t matter compared to the education that Parker gave me and everyone else on that crew as we grew to love and admire him even thru his jail time. Life speaks thru itself, thru the common people like Parker, who taught love and respect and assiduousness between his common insults and residual playfulness every day of his life. It was because of him that I could really see myself for what I was, happy, unhappy, compressive, depressive, married, loved, drunk in love with the crazy ways that we had set upon ourselves. We could all grow thru his experiences because he had been thru some of the worst and best that we could all hope for……I couldn’t live my life with the hat that wasn’t there after I had met him…..it just wasn’t possible…….he made everything possible again….. |
