Episode V At the conclusion of the meeting of scientists, the President ordered the National Guard and Federal Troops to clean up all known beaches that had received new tar balls and immediately incinerate them. About 10 days after the meeting, lateral bores intersected the main gusher channel under the sea and drilling mud and cement successfully sealed the blow out for good. There was a collective sigh of relief among all those sworn to secrecy about these strange tar balls. Over the next few weeks a few tar balls were found at random locations as much as 275 miles inland from the Texian beaches between Port O'Conner and Galveston. No tar balls had ever been found beyond the vegetation line of the beaches. Were these black globs capable of spontanious movement? In addition a few instances of unexplained oily residue was found around the windows and doors of a few homes, but no reported instances of other damage. A dead dog covered in a oily mass had been found in North Zulch, but locals thought perhaps he had accidently fallen into a pool of oil which were common around the oil wells in the area. After the well was sealed and a lot of tar balls had been incenerated, reports of inland findings of tar balls rapidly declined and not further mysterious deaths with associated oily findings were recorded. All this good news was explained by the investigating scientists by the theory that the aberrant life forms were unable to live or reproduce in their new environment and destroying as many tar balls as possible and sealing the deep Gulf gusher had minimized their malicious and distructive spread.
