Carolyn finally figured out the office politics. |
Mark swung open Carolyn’s office door, and entered. He threw down a few pages in the middle of her desk. The top one glided down to the floor and chattered against the register. “You call this a report?” Mark’s eyes squinty and his voice sharp. “What’s wrong with it? It’s what you asked for.” “That,” Mark pointed at the cluster of papers, “is not what I asked for. You even misspelled our firm’s name!” Carolyn gathered the pages together and retrieved the stray. “I’m warning you, Carolyn. This is your last chance. Screw up again and you’ll be in the unemployment line.” Mark huffed out and slammed the door. “I swear. I’ve given thirteen years to this place and what do I get?” she mumbled. She stared down at the first few pages, and a smile crept over her face. After a few chits on her keyboard the report displayed on her screen. After fixing the one misspelling, she hit the print button. She snatched the report from the printer and stealthily crossed over to her office and closed the door. She pulled a large manila envelope from her lower drawer and wrote on the outside. “Bill, Please look over this report. I think it has some great ideas. Mark’s staff did an excellent job. Love, Daisy” She slipped down the hall and slid it under Mr. Grayson, President and CEO’s door. She smiled and nodded as she passed Mark in the hall. She chuckled to herself. He wouldn’t dare ignore his mistress. A few hours later Mark knocked on her door. “Yes?” “Mr. Grayson seems to have gotten a copy of your report and your improvement ideas. He liked them, and…” Mark swallowed hard. “I owe you an apology.” “I accept. Now, let's talk about a raise.” 299 Words Flash Story Must contain: Misspelled, Sharp, Daisy |
