Stir Crazy

After eighteen months aboard the Starlight, the crew’s excitement level became almost palpable.

“I can’t believe we’re almost to Andronigus 4. The first people from Earth to visit another planet,” Cecilia said barely containing a grin.

“I know. Eighteen months on this ship. I’m getting stir crazy. I’ve went to every inch and crevice of this bucket of bolts,” Matt stated.

“Are you saying you don’t like us any more?” Larry asked half-joking.

“No. You guys are great. I’d just like a little space. You know.”

“Dude, you’re in space. How much do you need?”

They all laughed.

An announcement scratched over the intercom, “Lieutenant Matt Stevens report to the captain’s quarters.”

Matt peered up at the speaker, and glanced among his fellow astronauts. They mirrored his confused look. Matt strode out the galley and turned down the hall to the captain’s quarters. He knocked.

“Come in,” the captain chimed.

“You wanted to see me?”

“Yes. I have a few reports from last night that I’m concerned with.”

Matt stared at him.

“It seems that one of our shuttles was dispatched under your command code.”

“Sir?”

“The shuttle appears to have only 25% power now, so it traveled a long way. I guess what I’m asking is where were you last night?”

“I just needed to get off this ship, sir. A little stir crazy.”

“Joy riding around space.”

“Not exactly.”

“Well what is it then lieutenant?”

“To get my pay. I go by the name of Mulanika Stevens, which is the same as a procurement officer on Andronigus 4.”

The captain stood up. “What?Are you even human?”

Matt pulled out his phaser. “Yes, sir. I’m just delivering 65 sides of humans. I’ll have to radio ahead. One will be well done.” He fired.
