As I lay me down to sleep
Eternal peace I long to keep
And if I die before I wake
I thank God, for life's own sake.

The night is my friend
Erupting in silence
I hear my name whispered
Through thundering violence.

My head is held high
And my heart is still guarded
But my eyes have been downcast
Since the day that I started.

My lips turn upward
And my eyes begin to glisten
When I put on my mask
Because nobody listens.

I try to leave hints
To see if they care,
But no one sees through
The mask that I wear.

The burning sensation
That's stinging my eyes
Are the heart blinding tears
No ones seen me cry.

No hand reaches out,
No lifeguard pulls me in
No one tells me but I know
There's only one way to win.

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
And if I die before I wake...
