a small short story i wrote for a writing class.
A young girl is looking out a window enjoying the sound of music coming from her friend who was playing a piano, her name is Sakura. As she looked out the window all she could see was darkness. The Lights from the school yard only shined dimly, and didn’t help much. Sakura and her friend, Lee, were locked in the schools music room and had been there; most of the night. It was starting to look like it was going to be the whole night. Lee knew that Sakura was a bit of a crybaby and could get scared easily. He knew that playing music would help her stay calm and not start to cry about being locked in all night.
Lee was getting tired from playing the piano so much. He decided to take a break and talk to Sakura, while he was resting. Sakura noticed that Lee had stopped playing and wondered why. But she was answered when Lee came up behind her and gave her a hug and said things will be all right. She wasn’t sure why but she felt safe when Lee was hugging her, as though nothing could go wrong and that things will be all right for them.
After a little talking, Sakura and Lee decided it would be best for them to try and get some rest while they can. After all, it was going on two in the morning and they needed some rest still for the next day of school. As the night went on Lee was staying awake watching over Sakura, He wanted to stay awake to make sure nothing things where fine. But unknown to Lee, Sakura was still awake, thinking about what might happen tomorrow, not to mention she wasn’t able to eat supper so she was very hungry. While trying to keep her mind off eating and how hungry she was, it drifted back to earlier when Lee hugged her. The warmth from the hug, the way it made her feel happy and safe. Thinking about it made her blush a little bit, which made her a little embarrassed and glad that Lee couldn’t see her face.
Sakura wasn’t sure how much time had passed so she looked over to Lee who looked like he was about to fall asleep but was still awake leaning on the wall. Seeing her friend that way, she worried that he could hurt himself sleeping like that. Getting up Sakura went over and gave Lee a hug saying, “Don’t push your-self to hard.” After These words, Lee said “Thanks” and asked Sakura if she had gotten any rest yet. Sakura responded with “No because I’m a little hungry and can’t sleep.”
Lee was a bit hungry too and remembered that he had a little of his lunch left over that he could share. Lee told Sakura that he had a little bit of bread left over from lunch and that he would share it with her so they both wouldn’t be as hungry. Lee took what was left of the bread and broke it in half, giving Sakura the larger half. As they ate, they talked about what has happened so far that day to them, and what might happen the next day. Sakura was grateful for what Lee was doing sharing the last of his lunch with her. After finishing the little amount of food they had, Sakura said “Thanks for sharing Lee”. It made her happy to have such a close and caring friend.
After eating a little, Sakura was starting to want to sleep. She let Lee know that she will be going to sleep, and told him not to worry about staying up more with her. Lee gave Sakura one final hug and told her to sleep well. With that Sakura nodded off to sleep with Lee watching over her.
