A Ship in Port- October entry
A Ship in Harbor

As we pull in from a long journey made,

I watch the moorings as they slide through the chock.

And listen to the vociferous cry of seagulls aloft

As the gang plank sidles into the dock.

My family awaits me on the end of the pier,

As if they hadn't moved.

Sense I departed last year.

And they wait for my tales

Of the Sea and salt.

My yarn, the Innocuous version.

For the unsavory detail of a Bluejacket,

To the ears of my son,

I would not want to exalt!

The platitude of my post I have finally escaped.

Til the sea calls me back,

Until the sails once again drape.

As I walk past the windlass,

My family in tow.

I look back at her mast.

and ponder the inane realities

Only a sailor could know!

She brought me to places both fair and wide.

Her berth oddly Palatial.

When danger abound,

she kept us lee side.

In return she is kept very well tended

A ship in the harbor,

is where a sailor's life ended.
