I come to tell of a hero true Who fought for me, who died for you I come to tell of how he lost His life which was liberty's cost You see he was an honest man Who always swore he loved this land And so when came the call to fight He swore he'd fly into the night He was fast, and nimble too His feats of war the enemy knew His kills sent fear into their hearts They swear his name the Angels harked They say he was the bravest trained To go and fight on that fateful day They say he did not hold any fear They called him stubborn, like a steer They claim he was the quickest flight His aid could always win the fight Except on that day aformentioned When they finally killed his engines They shot him down, over the sea He died to save our lives we lead They say he died, they will always care They say that life is never fair A letter sent to his mother A friend to tell his lifelong lover His son was forced to grow up quick His legacy will always stick They tell his kids he died a hero They tell them he was shot down by a zero They try to tell them that this is war And to hope for him there is something more His children cry, his mother falls His wife is bothered by many calls It seems she never quite recovered The tragic loss of her lover When asked by news just how he died Standing in the door, his son replies He died a hero brave and true To live forever more in the endless blue |
