They were made for each other. All that keeps them apart is free will.
If you believe that this is a love story or a romance of any kind then it would be best that you turn away from this story and never look back. Don't read one more word if you are a hopeless romantic. It should be said from early on that this book does NOT consist of hugging, kissing or any displays of affection of any sort. It does not have a happy ending.

This day would be the ruin of him. He thought to himself. It was a Friday. The sun made it very hot outside, lunch was disgusting as usual, and his so called "friends" were laughing once more at his expense. This time it seemed to be because of his hair. He did not understand what was so funny about the use of hair gel. Were these people really the closest thing he had to relate to in this God forsaken town?

"Its...so...spiky! Dude...you could like...burst a balloon with it!" One of them stated, satisfied by the thought that his comment was an intelligent one.

"Nine!" A girl called in the hall after lunch was over. He looked back. *Oh great,* He thought. *the stalker.*

"Oh, hi Jennifer! I didn't see you there..." He said to her.

"Oh...well how's your day going?!?" She asked, as if it were any of her business whether or not his day was just as bland as always.

"Its great." He said with as much enthusiasm as he could muster. "Listen, I've gotta go. I'll see you around." *But I would prefer not to.* He finished the sentence in his head.

"...okay...see you later then." The girl named Jennifer replied, an unmasked feeling of neglect showing on her face and in her tone of voice.

Nine went about the remainder of his dreary day as he always did. Band was no more interesting than anything else. They had placed him on the drums. He was only in that class because he'd figured there would be much less talking. If he'd known they'd make him play this way he'd never have opted to be in such a class. His musical tastes were more along the lines of Murderdolls, and Mindless Self Indulgence.

He wondered what it was like for others in his situation. There must be someone somewhere who felt the way he did. Not that he cared much. It was just so dreary. Everyday was like a repeat of every other day. Nothing interesting ever happened in his school or, to be more precise, in his life. He pondered skipping gym class. He decided it was definitely worth the risk. When the bell rang, he went outside instead.

Meanwhile, in another school nowhere near his, someone else wondered whether or not they should pay attention in English.

Chapter 2: Cedar

This person did not feel the same as Nine. He felt completely different. He was never bored. He simply enjoyed whatever direction life pushed him in. He sat at his desk by the window. He was drawing another creature that he had thought up. This one was called "Crank." He smiled a dark, but amused smile.

"Freak." the girl sitting in the desk beside him half whispered.

"Thanks for your sympathy. I hate to be the one to tell you, Princess, but its your parents fault your so closed minded. Blame them when karma comes back to wreak havoc upon your soul and defile it with the torment that it so desperately deserves." He replied to her statement aloud, making most of the class stare at him, including the teacher.

"Cedar. I've had enough of this. Get up and go to the principal's office. Now." The teacher said.

"Fine. Its your souls your tarnishing. I'm only trying to warn you of the inevitable." He said matter of factly before leaving the classroom.

Cedar Jeffreys. The principal read on the referral. "You again?" He asked without looking up.

"Mhm. It was unnavoidable. This semi-intelligent girl called me a freak." Cedar stated right before yawning.

"Well, aren't you?" Principal Peterson asked, as if it were to be expected that he be known as a freak.

The next thing that happened caused Cedar to be kicked out of his parent's house, (mainly because of the price they had to pay after Rob Peterson sued them) loads of therapy, and to relocate to a new school. Nonetheless, he walked out of his psychologist's office smiling.

"Ah. Another good memory. How interesting." He said to himself aloud.

He thought about how different his new school would be. He started in three days. Until then he figured he could just stay at the hotel room he'd rented with his supposed "college fund". Maybe he could make some friends and ask if he could stay with one of them. He laughed. He doubted that that could ever happen.

Time flew by much more quickly than he imagined it would. He rushed to get ready for school. He was already ten minutes late. He got dressed and checked the mirror to be sure he looked strange enough that people would doubletake when they saw him. He did. He smiled and put on eyeliner for an added touch to his already unusual appearance.

He made it to school halfway through homeroom. He rushed into the class and everyone looked in surprise. Everyone but one boy sitting in the back. Cedar couldn't stop looking at this boy. He saw that he was listening to music and not hiding it very well. Then he realized he wasn't even trying to hide it. Cedar went to the back and sat down beside Nine. *Now this,* Cedar thought, keeping a smile held back as best he could. *should be VERY interesting.*
