Frigid bits of snow
around my heart
melt, drip, and refreeze
forming sharp icicles
Pins and needles
chilling me
from the inside out.
I wrap myself in
blankets, coats, scarves;
but warmest wools cannot
even near the freeze.
They are nothing
compared to his arms.
I know the cold
will grow- dull my senses-
make me numb;
but I choose this blizzard,
if only because,
when he returns,
I am all the warmer
for it.
Still, it is so cold
when he goes.
